I purchased a product at the Miller Shop in Phaphos. The shop displayed an Amex sign. I handed over my Amex card. The lady appeared to attempt the transaction then told me that it did not go through. I offered another card, but she insisted on making a phone call in an attempt to validate the purchase on my Amex card. I told her to give me back the card but she refused, while she continued to read my card details to someone over the phone. As it all looked very suspicious I forcibly took my card from her hand and gave her a MasterCard. Within a few days I received notification from Amex that several fraudulent purchases had been attempted on that card, in both Euros and Rubles. The Miller Shop was the only merchant at which I had used the Amex card overseas this year. Fortunately the fraudulent attempts were blocked and they issued me with another card, however more attempts were made over the next two months. I warn travelers not to use an Amex card in the Miller Shop. I have reported the details to the relevant authorities for thorough investigation and look forward to hearing about a conviction.
