In my situation, it was a scam. Someone tried to charge close to $400 at Autozone #6998 in Memphis, TN. I'm in Nebraska. My bank declined the charge because they thought it was suspicious. I called my bank and the card was immediately shut down. There have been 3 more attempts to use that card at the same Autozone location. I believe my card was compromised due to PayPal. That card was relatively new. PayPal had put a hold on my account with them a few days ago. I don't know why. I had to do several things with PayPal directly in order to confirm my identity. One of those things was to confirm one of my payment methods on file with them. Shortly after confirming my identity with them and they released the hold on my PayPal account, I received the first text about the large amount trying to be charged on my card. I've talked to others that I know and I've also done some research online. It seems like a lot of people are having the same issue or additional issues after PayPal has put their account on hold and then PayPal needs information to confirm identity to release the hold. PayPal refuses to admit that there may be a security issue on their end. I'm done using PayPal.

As per everyone here. I'm from Florida and had 3 transactions totalling cliae to $500. I use BOA and they let all three go thru then sent out a Fraud Alert. I got hit for over $ 1000.00. It was store #6998 Memphis Tennessee. BE AWARE. had to cancel card. Now waiting 10 business days for new card.

Not a scam on October 27, 2023

Just got an alert from my bank about a $16 charge from this store. I had just finished a purchase in their app for delivery in another state and for a different amount. But when I checked my conformation email I saw how Auto Zone broke down the charge. They shipped most of my order from their local distribution center as one charge, but a couple of the items came from different locations and were charged separately. One of those charges was exactly $16 after tax. That location is likely a hub store in the Memphis area and just happened to be the closest location that had my part. Double check your email confirmations before reporting this as a fraudulent charge and you’ll save yourself a big pain in the neck from having your card replaced.

Not a scam. Check your email receipts. They break down the charges. I ordered multiple parts. Some of them shipped directly from store #6998 in Memphis, TN. It is their online store warehouse. Since those parts are shipped directly from the vendor, the charge for them was separate from the charge for the parts that come from one of my local AutoZone stores. My charge from store #6998 was for $19.97. The part that shipped from there was 21.49. That is what caused me to look into this. I hadn't ordered any parts that totaled $19.97, I thought to myself. Then I remembered that I had used a promo code. With the promo code applied and the taxes added in the total for that part was $19.97.
